Building trust and transparency in our community
Vision for District 4
With 25 years of experience serving in law enforcement and government oversight roles, Sonya Ofchus for Fulton County Commissioner is a grassroots initiative committed to fostering positive change in our community.
Our mission revolves around three core pillars:
Ethics and Transparency
Zoning and Transportation Infrastructure
Youth Crime Prevention
We believe that by addressing these issues collectively, we can create a more just, inclusive, and prosperous community for everyone.
I envision a county government that uplifts its people through transparent and accountable leadership. By collaborating with local schools and organizations, we can proactively prevent youth violence and create a safer environment with enhanced mentoring and tutoring programs for our inner-city youth.
Top Priorities
At Sonya Ofchus for County Commissioner, we envision a community where ethical leadership and transparent governance are the norm. It is a community where every resident has access to safe and sustainable transit, and our youth are provided with opportunities that deter them from engaging in crime. We strive to build a foundation for a better future, leaving no one behind. I will enhance government transparency to ensure your tax dollars are spent efficiently on intended services.
Campaign Initiatives
-
Ethics and Transparency
Transparency is the cornerstone of a healthy democracy. Our campaign advocates for:
Open and Accountable Governance: We will work towards ensuring that decision-making processes are transparent, accessible, and accountable to the community.
Ethical Leadership: We support leaders who prioritize honesty, integrity, and ethical conduct. By fostering a culture of accountability, we aim to create an environment where public officials serve with the highest ethical standards.
Sonya will lead by example, upholding the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and moral conduct - never using her office for personal or political gain. She'll require legal/ethical training for all county staff and implement transparent performance oversight protocols.
To disrupt backroom dealing, Sonya plans to enhance recording/disclosure procedures around lobbying as well as institute cooling-off periods before staff can accept jobs from affiliated private industries.
-
Upgrading Transportation Infrastructure
Sonya Ofchus believes vibrant communities start with smart zoning, enabling sustainable density and walkable access to daily needs. As Commissioner, she will update land use policies to encourage mixed-use development around multi-modal transit hubs.
This transit-oriented approach reduces car dependency by locating affordable housing, jobs, restaurants, services, and recreation in pedestrian-friendly spaces supported by reliable public transportation options.
Her data-driven investments will focus on sustainable mobility initiatives like Installing additional pedestrian crosswalks and extending crossing times, Creating dedicated bus rapid transit lanes and shelter upgrades, ADA accessibility retrofitting, Road diets reallocating vehicle space to bike lanes, and Traffic calming and speed reduction mechanisms.
Sonya will also explore partnerships, matching grants, and funding to supplement budgets for maximizing infrastructure upgrades.
-
Youth Crime Prevention
Investing in our youth is an investment in our community's future. Our campaign focuses on:
Conflict Resolution Training: We will provide conflict resolution and interpersonal skills training to help youth manage conflicts peacefully. We will also teach effective communication and problem-solving techniques to reduce the likelihood of resorting to violence.
Awareness Campaigns: We will conduct awareness campaigns in schools and communities to educate youth about the consequences of violence and the importance of non-violent alternatives.
Legislation and Gun Control: We will advocate for and support legislation aimed at preventing access to firearms by minors and individuals with a history of violence and implement measures to reduce the availability of illegal weapons.
