Open and Accountable Governance
Sonya's decades of government experience - from law enforcement to federal agencies - have instilled in her a deep appreciation for accountability and transparency. As a U.S. Postal Inspector, Special Agent, and Police Investigator, she upheld the highest ethical standards in investigating fraud, financial crimes, and abuses of power. This commitment to integrity will be paramount in bringing open and accessible governance.
Her entrepreneurial leadership roles also provide valuable insights into instituting sound operational practices, accurate financial reporting, and clear communication to maintain stakeholders' trust. Sonya will apply this public and private sector knowledge to enhance decision-making transparency and accountability.
By fostering this culture of accountability, Sonya will ensure Fulton County's leaders serve one master alone - the people's interests. Unethical conduct will never be swept under the rug.
We must create an environment where public officials uphold supreme ethical standards - or they will be removed. Fulton County deserves bold leadership that is not beholden to partisan self-interest but is guided by democratic principles and moral courage. Vote Sonya Ofchus for the transparent reform we need.
Livable, Walkable Communities
Sonya Ofchus believes vibrant communities start with smart zoning, enabling sustainable density and walkable access to daily needs. As Commissioner, she will update land use policies to encourage mixed-use development around multi-modal transit hubs. This transit-oriented approach reduces car dependency by locating affordable housing, jobs, restaurants, services, and recreation in pedestrian-friendly spaces supported by reliable public transportation options.
Sonya's zoning vision will also expand infrastructure like protected bike lanes and sidewalks - making neighborhoods more bikeable and walkable without vehicle conflict. She will champion policies supporting the safe mobility of pedestrians, cyclists, children, and seniors.
Her equitable approach will also expand internet connectivity and access to businesses providing basic daily needs across all neighborhoods - not just concentrated downtown. Zoning incentives will attract grocery stores, clinics, community spaces, and other staples to underserved areas. Her personal life experiences also give her empathy for those struggling with housing insecurity. Sonya will prioritize community engagement to address residents' unique challenges and needs.
Youth Crime Prevention
Having served on the frontlines as a Police Officer and Investigator, Sonya saw first-hand how preventative programs can divert youth from violence and criminal activities. She grasps the importance of conflict resolution training, open communication, and alternatives to incarceration.
Her management expertise at Host Nation Perspectives, overseeing over 100 NGOs, reminded her of the power of community partnership. Sonya will foster collaboration between schools, law enforcement, and organizations to tackle youth crime comprehensively from all angles.
